Grade 11 – RSM28 – Gear Racer

Gear Racer

Project Description:

Students will use a Lego gear racer (complete with a two gear transmission) to investigate the effects of different gear ratios on acceleration and velocity. Which gear combination is best for which type of task?  Students will perform experiments, with the aid of a sensor, to determine acceleration and speed for different gear settings. They will also see where gears are used in their everyday lives and how gears in a car would work.
